Panalito Placemat Indigo

$30

The Panalito Placemat layers perfectly with our runners and napkins. Panalito literally means 'little panel' and is based on a traditional textile technique found in Guatemala. Typically very colorful and bold, we simplified it so it could easily fit in with a variety of home decor styles. Handwoven by a family-run cooperative of weavers in Comalapa, Guatemala.

MINNA is a New York based home textile brand established in 2013 by Sara Berks. MINNA uses traditional craft techniques to produce ethically made goods with a contemporary edge.

Employing a cottage industry approach, MINNA partners with master weavers and artisan collectives in Mexico, Guatemala, and Uruguay, which helps ensure craft preservation and job creation.

What began as an exploration in tapestry weaving evolved into the MINNA home textile collection. Designs are informed and inspired by Feminist art, the Bauhaus, traditional craft, and vintage textiles.

With a background in graphic design from SVA, Sara’s approach to textile design is strongly influenced by the Bauhaus. A weaver herself, she often begins the design process on the loom. She travels to Guatemala and Mexico several times a year to work closely with her artisan partners. She lives in Upstate New York with her wife, Steph, and their dog, Max.
